Meetup #7 Recap · October 14, 2026 · LA Tech Week

Agents Go to Work

Groundfloor · Echo Park, Los Angeles

Thanks to Steve Sagondollar for capturing our event on video!

Meetup #7 was our first official LA Tech Week event, and a great turnout. Close to 100 people packed Groundfloor (possibly more), six speakers gave 15-minute talks, and the audience kept them all honest with great questions. Every talk was about agents doing real work: writing content, running slides, helping a lawyer practice, powering Microsoft's next personal agent, unlocking government funding, and launching new platforms.

Jimi Smoot presenting Assist

Jimi Smoot: Assist: Agentic Content Creation

Jimi opened the night with his agentic platform for creating consistent social media content. Rather than wrestling with prompts every time, he built a system that lets agents produce on-brand content for his company at scale; the machinery handles the consistency so the content actually ships.

His parting message was pure OpenClaw spirit: build your own version of what he demoed. The pieces are all out there. Take them and make the system yours.

The move: stop prompting from scratch every time. Build the pipeline once, let the agents run it.
Trillium Smith presenting voice-controlled workflows

Trillium Smith: Voice-Controlled Everything

Trillium spoke next, and gave the crowd a glimpse of the future: he used voice to advance his slides, and even went off-script, controlling his laptop live with nothing but speech.

It wasn't perfect, and that was part of the point. There might come a day when we look back and remember how people used to have to hit keys and click a mouse. Matt and the audience loved it.

Why it mattered: the demo wasn't about polish. It was about seeing, live, where the interface is heading.
Bobby Latif presenting his Claude setup for a law practice

Bobby Latif: Claude in a Real Law Practice

Bobby walked us through his process of getting an attorney set up with Claude to help with his practice; a concrete story of taking an AI system into a professional's daily workflow and making it stick.

Then the Q&A turned lively: Bobby got drilled on why he doesn't like Anthropic, and he answered without flinching, speaking critically of the founders and their AI doomer views. A crowd favorite.

The lesson: the best agent setups start with one real professional problem, not with the technology.
Milind Potdar presenting agents at Microsoft

Milind Potdar: Agents at Microsoft

Milind, a Product Management and Adoption leader at Microsoft, walked us through how his team uses agents in practice: adoption, product management, and Copilot.

The headline moment: OpenClaw was used as a starting point for Microsoft's new personal agent. For a meetup built around OpenClaw, hearing that the project's DNA is showing up inside Microsoft was a genuine moment.

Big picture: open-source agent patterns are influencing how the largest software companies build.
Joseph Chicas presenting GovClaw

Joseph Chicas: GovClaw: Funding from the Government

Joseph told the story of starting GovClaw and helping organizations access funding from the government. What began as a passion project has turned into a full-blown company, now helping hundreds of organizations tap into money they didn't know was accessible.

It's a case study in following genuine enthusiasm into a real business: his passion became a product, and the product became a company.

The numbers: from one person's mission to hundreds of orgs served and growing.
Andrew Peltekci announcing Kainotomic

Andrew Peltekci: Announcing Kainotomic

Andrew closed out the speaker lineup with a launch: his new platform, Kainotomic. He walked through how it's set up as a one-stop shop for developers: build, publish, market, and sell your apps, all in one place.

For the builders in the room, it was the perfect note to end on: less plumbing between "I made something" and "people are using it."

The pitch: build, publish, market, sell. One platform, start to finish.

Liam Broza: Companion Intelligence Announcement

To wrap the night, Liam Broza, founder of Companion Intelligence, gave a quick announcement about their private AI servers and his current Kickstarter campaign. Back at #6 he showed the full vision; this time it was a teaser of where it's heading next.

The Through-Line

Every talk was about agents doing real work outside the demo. Jimi put agents in charge of content for a real company. Trillium replaced the keyboard with his voice. Bobby put Claude inside an attorney's practice. Milind showed Microsoft building on OpenClaw. Joseph turned a passion for government funding into a company serving hundreds of orgs. Andrew launched a platform to get apps from idea to customers faster.

The meta-lesson: agents aren't a demo anymore; they're running businesses, practices, and product roadmaps. The question at this meetup wasn't "can agents do this?" It was "what are you building with them?"
Thanks to everyone who came out. If you want to present, teach, or demo at a future event, we'd love to have you.
